How do I change my horse's registered name? Is there a form/fee?

Don't love your horse's registered name? If your American Quarter Horse fits the criteria, it's eligible for a name change.

To change a horse’s name, you will need to submit a horse name change form. A horse’s name can be changed upon receipt of an acceptable name choice, the original registration certificate and payment, per AQHA Rule REG118, so long as the horse has not:

(a) Competed in an AQHA show or special event.

(b) Started in a recognized race.

(c) Earned a special achievement recognition award, per Rule 440.

(d) Earned any money or award with an AQHA affiliate as shown on AQHA records.

(e) Appeared on any breeding document submitted to AQHA.

The fee for changing a horse’s name is $100 for members or $155 for nonmembers, which includes a one-year membership.
